What is NLC bharat

National Legislators’ Conference Bharat (NLC Bharat) strives to bring together for the first time the legislators from all the States and Union Territories of Bharat (India) with the objective of fostering the spirit of unity in diversity and promoting the democratic values of participation, deliberations, transparency and good governance in the functioning of the State legislatures. NLC Bharat (India) aims at building a space for peer learning and to create support for competent, ethical and creative public leadership. NLC Bharat (India) will provide avenues for lawmakers to showcase the best practices on the constituency management and legislative businesses. NLC Bharat (India) through workshops, conferences, and seminars will provide an opportunity for members of legislative assemblies and councils to interact, debate, and deliberate on their challenges and aspirations. NLC Bharat (India), on one hand, will be an interface amongst the legislators of all the political parties and all the States and Union Territories; and on the other hand, it will be an interface between the legislatures and civil society.

NLC Bharat (India) will act as a forum for encouraging open and candid interactions on challenges faced by legislators in their role as 'people's representatives' and 'leaders'. NLC Bharat (India) will showcase innovative practices in governance that carries the potential to be scaled and replicated in other areas. NLC Bharat (India) will equip the legislators with the best legislative practices for their effective performances on the floor of the assembly/council. NLC Bharat (India) will introduce the MLAs/MLCs to the emerging trends in the domains of technology, e-governance, economy, demography and international relations to link the global with the local. NLC Bharat (India) will further strive to create a permanent forum for all the MLAs and MLCs to meet, discuss and empower themselves to face the challenges in their functioning as well as finding the ways to bring in the desired socio-economic changes. There are many more reasons why the MLAs/MLCs should participate in NLC Bharat (India).

    This non-partisan platform is intended for all the Legislatures of Bharat (India) who wish to become a member of NLC Bharat (India). This includes Members of Legislative Assemblies along with Speakers & Deputy Speakers of Legislative Assemblies of 28 States and 2 Union Territories. It also includes Members of Legislative Councils and Chairpersons & Deputy Chairpersons of Legislative Councils of 6 states of Bharat (India). This is a step towards bringing together the decision makers of a democratic Bharat (India).
