Gegong Apang (born 8 July 1949) is an Indian politician from the state of Arunachal Pradesh. He has been a prominent figure in Arunachal Pradesh politics and has served as the Chief Minister of the state multiple times.
Apang began his political career in the late 1970s and was associated with the Indian National Congress (INC). He was first elected to the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1978 and went on to hold various ministerial portfolios in the state government.
Apang served as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh for the first time from 1980 to 1999, making him one of the longest-serving Chief Ministers in the state’s history. He then held the position again from 2003 to 2007. Apang’s tenure witnessed significant developments in infrastructure, education, and healthcare sectors in Arunachal Pradesh.
However, Apang’s political career was not without controversy. In 2007, he resigned from the Chief Minister’s post following corruption allegations. He later left the Indian National Congress and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2014.
