Mulayam Singh Yadav, born on 22nd November 1939 in Saifai, Uttar Pradesh, is a prominent Indian politician who has played a significant role in regional and national politics. He is a member of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and has held several important positions throughout his political career.
Yadav started his political journey in the late 1960s, initially associated with the socialist movement. He became a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) in 1969 and was elected to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1967. However, he later parted ways with the INC and founded the Samajwadi Party in 1992, which went on to become one of the major political parties in Uttar Pradesh.
Yadav served as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh multiple times, with his first term starting in 1989. He held the position of Chief Minister from 1989 to 1991, 1993 to 1995, 2003 to 2007, and 2012 to 2017. During his tenure, he implemented various social welfare programs and developmental initiatives in the state.
On the national level, Yadav has been a prominent figure in Indian politics. He has been a member of the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament, representing different constituencies over the years. He also served as the Minister of Defence in the Government of India from 1996 to 1998.
